History and Archeology

The history of Peru covers a period of more than 20,000 years of civilization, which is why it is difficult to summarize it in a presentation.

We know that the first settlers arrived in Peru 20,000 years ago. Peruvian history presumes that they arrived from the north through the Isthmus of Panama in search of new lands. They were hunters and gatherers, as the rock art shows us in Toquepala (Tacna, 7600 BC.)

Although there are many ways of studying and dividing history, for the sake of simplification we will divide it into three distinct stages:

» Pre-Hispanic Stage: up to 1532 AD
» Stage of the Conquest, Viceroyalty and Independence: Until 1824 AD
» Republican era : Till the present

The architectural and cultural expressions of this rich and long history can be visited either in the museums in the multiple archeological centers of the country.
